And generally speaking the German teams were in a comparatively good position and looked pretty good. In a total of 7 Olympic disciplines 5 German victories could be gained. Furthermore the two Paralympic classes were dominated by black-red-gold. 15 teams of the German Sailing Federation have been awarded prizes.
For many sportsmen (and also for the German National Team) the regattas in Schilksee have been the final rehearsal before the Summer Olympics in Rio begin.
Moreover the IDM – International German Sea Sailing Championships – took place in the course of the Kieler Woche and the women’s crew “Hotquito” (Skipper: Anke Scheuermann) came 8th among 20 teams. For the first time a long distance challenge of 24-30 hours sailing time was included in the evaluation.
Unfortunately the spectators, sportsmen and exhibitors weren’t always that lucky with the weather. Nevertheless at least 80,000 visitors came to see the grand finale - the Windjammer parade with 100 traditional sailing boats, motor vessels and steamships.
